Spring & Fall Cleanup FAQs

what is a cleanup?

why do I need a cleanup?

why do I need a cleanup?

Fall cleanups are the final landscape maintenance service of the year. We clear the lawn and beds of leaves, sticks and branches. We cut down decorative grasses and flowering perennials (e.g. lilies, irises, peonies, etc.). We also mow the lawn.

Spring cleanups are the first landscape maintenance service of the year. Same as the fall cleanups, but we dethatch* the lawn when we mow and do not cut down any plants.

*We offer standalone dethatch services. Pricing varies by lawn.

Leaving leaves and sticks on the lawn over the winter will damage your lawn. All of the  snow will compact the leaves which will then decompose and kill the grass  underneath. Cleaning decomposing leaves is challenging and time consuming, so leaving the leaves all winter will therefore make the spring cleanup more challenging and time consuming which means higher cost  for you.

Also, cleanups make your yard look nice.

How much are cleanups?

why do I need a cleanup?

when do cleanups happen?

Cleanups are at our standard labor rate of $75 per man hour which includes our Hurricane power blower and $75 for offsite disposal of leaves and brush, if needed. Most fall cleanups are $300-$600. Spring cleanups are generally less if a Fall cleanup was done the year prior.

Some things that affect the cost of a cleanup:

  • The size of the yard
  • types of leaves (maple are easy, pine needles are not)
  • volume of leaves
  • onsite vs offsite disposal*
  • weather
  • obstacles (like fences)

*Onsite disposal consists of us blowing the leaves in the woods. It goes much faster and is preferable to offsite if it’s an option for your yard

when do cleanups happen?

can I schedule a date for my cleanup?

when do cleanups happen?

Fall cleanups start in early November after the regular mowing is done and continue until      they’re all done or snow prevents us from continuing.

Spring cleanups begin as early in the spring as we can start, but generally occur in April.

can I schedule a date for my cleanup?

can I schedule a date for my cleanup?

can I schedule a date for my cleanup?

No, but you can tell me if you have a scheduling preference (e.g. “I’m hosting a holiday party and would like it done before then” or “Please do mine as late as possible”).

Will you tell me when you are coming?

can I schedule a date for my cleanup?

can I schedule a date for my cleanup?

Only if you have a specific reason that you need to know when we’re coming (e.g. “We can’t park in the garage so we will have to move our cars off the lawn for you” or “We have a pet door that we will need to secure before you come”). Cleanups are scheduled day-to-day, but that doesn’t mean that every cleanup  happens as scheduled. Sometimes people don’t show up for work, equipment breaks, weather doesn’t cooperate or a parade on Main St prevents us from getting to a job site* and the whole schedule gets thrown off.

*true story

when should i get a fall cleanup?

what if it snows before you do my fall cleanup?

what if it snows before you do my fall cleanup?

It depends on what kind of trees you have.

  • If you have maples and pines       and NO oaks, you’re likely ready to go in early November!
  • If you have a variety of trees       including hangers-on such as oaks and dogwoods, you may want two       cleanups: one in early November and one in late November or December as these trees tend to hold onto their leaves.

There’s nothing we can do about the weather! Sometimes an early snow melts so we can keep working. Sometimes we have to wait until spring.

Can you give me an exact price?

will you take the leaves if i rake them?

We do not offer flat rate cleanup prices. However, it is important to note that we have many cleanups to do and want to make sure we get them all done. Our goal is to do a good job, but also move quickly so we can get as many cleanups done as possible.
